She became the connection before there was The Vet Connect.
Her instinct
A U.S. Air Force veteran, entrepreneur and natural builder, Tanisha has always had an instinct for figuring things out. She learns the system, finds the opportunity, opens the door — and then looks back to see who else she can bring through it.
That instinct followed her beyond military service.
As Tanisha built her own civilian life, she learned how to navigate veteran benefits and resources, homeownership, entrepreneurship and government contracting. Each new experience gave her more than knowledge for herself. It gave her something she could share.
And sharing it came naturally.
What she knew, she shared.What she learned, she passed on.What she discovered, she connected someone else to.
People started coming to her
Soon, people began coming to Tanisha with questions of their own.
Where do I start?
Who do I call?
How do I get there?
What opportunities are available to me?
And Tanisha kept doing what she had already been doing: helping people find their next step. Sometimes the answer was a resource. Sometimes it was information. Sometimes it was an introduction, an opportunity or simply knowing the right person to call.
But the more people she helped, the more clearly she could see the real problem.
The moment the vision became clear
The resources existed.
The connection didn’t always.
There could be an entire world of programs, benefits, organizations and opportunities available to someone — and they could still have no idea where to begin.
Tanisha understood that sometimes people don’t need another list. Sometimes they need someone to say:
Start here.
- Someone who can help make the introduction.
- Someone who can point toward an opportunity.
- Someone who knows a resource.
- Someone who can connect one person to another.
Long before she gave it a name, Tanisha had become that connector.
A bigger question
What if the connection didn’t have to depend on one person?
That question became part of the vision for The Vet Connect. Tanisha imagined taking what had been happening organically — one question, one introduction, one opportunity, one person at a time — and building something that could connect an entire community.
Not simply another organization with a list of resources. A place to start. A place where veterans could find support when they needed it, but also discover opportunities to work, learn, build, grow, connect and contribute. A place where someone might arrive looking for one thing and discover something they didn’t even know was possible.
Because Tanisha’s vision for veterans has never stopped at getting through the next crisis.
She wants veterans to thrive.
- To have stable homes.
- To find meaningful work.
- To care for their wellness.
- To build businesses.
- To discover opportunities.
- To create relationships.
- To lead.
- And to belong.
Why she built The Vet Connect
That is also why her vision for The Vet Connect goes beyond a traditional nonprofit website. She wants The Vet Connect to actually be the connect.
The vision is for the platform to grow into a digital front door and community — a place where veterans can discover resources, opportunities, experiences and people without having to navigate every part of civilian life alone.
And there is another part of that vision that matters deeply:
The person who needs a connection today may become the connection for someone else tomorrow.
A veteran who finds an opportunity may eventually share one. Someone who receives guidance may eventually become the person giving it. Someone who enters the community looking for help may discover that their own experience, knowledge and relationships have value to somebody else.
That is when connectionbecomes bigger than a referral.It becomes community.
And that idea reflects the way Tanisha approaches building in her own life. Entrepreneurship, to her, is not simply about creating something for herself. It is about recognizing possibility, learning how to access it and opening pathways so other people can see what is possible for them, too.
The Vet Connect is an extension of that same instinct. It began with people asking questions. It grew from a woman who kept helping them find answers. And now it is becoming a vision much bigger than any one person.
One person can make an introduction.
A community can create possibilities.
Tanisha is still learning. Still creating. Still connecting. Still building. But now she is building something designed to allow the connections to continue without always having to begin with her.
That is The Vet Connect.
